Spotify and Discord Outages Update 2022
Spotify and Discord are coming back online after outages
A Friday morning outage is the last thing anyone wants to deal with, but it’s becoming an increasingly common occurrence these days. The last 24 hours have seen outages on Spotify and Discord, leaving millions of people without the music they enjoy or the video games they play. We’ll keep you updated on the status of these disruptions, so stay tuned as things develop over the course of the weekend.
What happened
Two of today’s most popular chat programs, Discord and Spotify, have suffered from massive outages due to a series of Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attacks. This is a form of attack in which one computer sends an overwhelming amount of requests to another computer in order to disrupt its services.
How long will it take?
Spotify’s official Twitter account said that The Spotify service should be back up and running for everyone now. We’re sorry for any inconvenience. There is no word on how long Discord, a voice-and-text chat app, will be offline, but if history repeats itself, it shouldn’t take too long to bring its servers back online. This morning when Discord went down, it took only two hours to return.
Spotify said they were working on fixing the outage
We're working on resolving it. We'll post another update when we have more information, a tweet from Spotify's official Twitter account said. Thank you for your patience. The app was still not working for some users in Sweden at noon GMT, according to Down Detector, a website that tracks outages.
What is Discord?
For fans of PC games who can’t get enough time in with their favorite titles, there’s a good chance they’ve heard of Discord. However, for those who haven’t, it may be worth a look—especially now that it appears to be down again. Here’s a quick primer: This free VoIP platform is used by millions around the world to communicate in real-time with their gaming communities.
Going offline can be good for business
If a customer wants to get in touch with your company and can’t, they’re going to take their business elsewhere. It takes a lot of time to build relationships, but it doesn’t take much for an angry customer to jump ship. If you think about your own behavior, you know that when you can’t connect with someone online, you tend to forget about them—and look for an alternative service provider. The same goes for customers.
